Digital badges are a validated indicator of a skill, interest, quality or achievement. The Cork College of Commerce will eventually provide badges in the areas of: Entrepreneurship, Volunteering, College Ambassador and Future Planning.
Entrepreneurship and Volunteering (2 badges – Active Volunteering and Fundraising Volunteer) badges will be piloted in September 2019.
How do I achieve one?
You will learn about what digital badges are available your teachers and/or your Course Director.
Having decided to strive for a badge, you will be given instructions on what you must do. Follow those instructions. A single digital badge is designed to reflect approximately 10-20 hours effort by the earner. However active volunteering allows you to earn different levels of attainment. This effort must be verifiable by a third party and evidence must be presented to the badge issuer in the College of Commerce.
When can I start?
You can start working on your badge from the end of September but must have all evidence submitted and projects completed by the last Friday in March of the following year.
What is the purpose of digital badges?
These digital badges are a physical way for earners to exhibit accomplishment in extra-curricular activities and informal learning. They can be displayed in CVs and online profiles (e.g. LinkedIn) and offer added value.
How will I be assessed?
Depending on the badge you are working towards, you may be asked to provide a combination of some of the following: Signed Time Sheet, Written reflection, Reference, Recorded oral presentation/ Skills Demonstration, documentation, event footage.
Do I need to let anyone know that I am completing a badge during the year?
You need to email email@example.com letting the DBC know that you wish to complete a badge during the academic year and let them know which badge you wish to be considered for.
What are the rules?
You must be a student of the college.
You need to have an email address that will need to be associated with the badge.
The badge you are seeking must be one issued by the college.
The effort you make to accomplish it should be verifiable by a third party.
Once issued, the meta-data of the Badge cannot be altered.
It is an offence to use a badge that you have not earned or to misrepresent the nature, date or level of any badge that you have earned.
What is in a digital badge?
A digital badge contains meta- data about the earner and the nature of their accomplishment. Each badge may appear the same but when you click on it, the data is unique to each individual earner.
What personal information will be stored?
CCOC engages the services of a 3rd party data processor authorised by CCOC to assist in the administration of the CCOC Digital Badge program.
